Instructions for Crochet Wrap Vest

I have received permission from Leonie to post my version of her wrap vest.

I hope this makes sense, please ask if it doesn't.

Size 4mm (No 8) crochet hook.
6 balls of Soft Carnival 8ply

Finished, laid out flat, wrap 25.5" (65.5cms) wide x 35" long (89.5cms)

Make 94 chain, turn, skip 2 chain (these are part of your new row*) and start your dc's in the third chain. Continue with your rows until work measures 12" (31cms).

Armhole* - dc 30, chain 32, dc 30. Continue your rows until this section measures 15.5"(40cms).

Do another armhole as above and continue work until this last section measures 7.5" (19.5cms).

Tie in all ends.

*When I finish a row, at my last dc I do 2 x chain then turn. The 2 x chain become the beginning of the next row. I am not sure that this is correct, but it works for me and keeps my edging lovely and straight.

*My armhole is 8". The armhole sits exactly in the middle of the length of the work. To do this, I folded my work lengthways and then measured 4" from the middle fold. I then counted my dc out and that gave me the count I have put in as above. As for my length I measured the same way as Leonie did and added 4" to allow for my large collar.

You will also notice that one front panel is wider than the other. I wanted to get a slightly off-centre look for my wrap as the collar is angled as well and I wanted to compliment this. In the rectangle above you can see where my button brooch is pinned on the larger front panel. I left this here to show you how far down it is. Have a look at my previous post to see the vest being worn.

If you make this wrap vest, please let me know how it turns out as I would love to see and also let Leonie know as well and say thank you to her for sharing this lovely, cosy pattern.

You know you want to make one, so go, get your yarn and your hook and get started, you will be finished in 3 nights time if you begin now, just in time for snuggling over the weekend and showing off your fabulous fashion to all those envious soccer mums on Saturday morning while they shiver and shake and admire your wrap vest.

I love this wrap. I'm not very good at crocheting in straight lines...I can do granny's, but the straight stuff throws me. But I might have a go at this. I'd love to wear something that I made. I could wear it over my new (as yet un-sewn) tunic. Thanks for sharing!

I am amazed with your vest! It looks great on you, be proud!!! Do you know what? I made the same vest in NEARLY the same colour... but I made the lapels really just too huge and it just didn't work on me, so I gave it to my mum who is looks lovely on! I'm now feeling inspired by yours to knit one and see how that turns out! Enjoy keeping warm in your new vest!

Found your site through Ravelry. This vest is really great. I am inspired to make on this fall. It is too hot here to do much knitting or crocheting. I have some quilting friends in Australia - boy you girls are crafty!

Rosie, you know, I reckon a vest in grannies would be awesome, I tried making one a few weeks ago, but it didn't quite work. I think this pattern could well lend itself to grannies for sure. I would love to make one from grannies but in a finer ply yarn that I have used here. The vest is quite bulky, but that is where the warm comes from. It's lovely. I so look forward to seeing your tunic.

Alice, wow, I am so glad your mum loves hers, it's the ultimate in warm for sure. Looking forward to seeing your knitted version. I was going to make another crochet one the same but different colour, but now thinking I will knit the next one exactly as Leonie has hers. I have a lovely charcoally grey yarn for this one.

Cynthia, thanks for stopping by, wow, you are quick, I just joined Ravelry last night and have no idea how to work the site just yet. I don't have any photos up, so how did you find me? lol. Yes, I have much to learn. I so love meeting such creative people out there. As for the vest, I reckon a little spring number in a finer yarn would be beautiful. Just enough to keep you warm in the early mornings but not too hot that you feel too bulked up by it during the day. Maybe even on larger needles for a lacey finish. Looking forward to seeing your vest when you make it too. Such a lovely pattern.

It sounds like when doing the armhole chain there should be a certain amount of sts skipped before doing the remaining dc's.

I realize this comment is a little late and your daughter is a tad past 8 months old but was wondering if you ever figured out a pattern for her? If you are still interested, I can help you out with whatever her current size is. Sorry, I've just found this. If you are still interested you can email me at Dingbat3HouserStreet@yahoo.com.
