Princess Charlotte Alopecia Foundation

No, it's not a creature from a weird sci fi movie. It's my hair. Well actually it was my hair, it's now in the post to Princess Charlotte Alopecia Foundation to hopefully very soon be made into a wig to adorn the head of a darling little girl or boy that needs it.

You see, I am very lucky that my hair grows, and it seems such a waste to go cutting it off when it can be used to help someone else.

I have been wanting to do the Leukaemia Foundation Shave for a Cure for quite a few years now, however, decided that I could do two good deeds in the one turn. I waited about four years until my hair was the required 30cms so it could be used for wig making. In that time using no colours or perm solutions on my hair to keep it as natural and hopefully as healthy as I could.

When I wrapped it up this morning, it was hard to believe that it used to be attached to my head. It's silky soft and so shimmery, I really did take my hair for granted. I don't regret what I did, however, quite the opposite in the fact that I really should have done this when I was younger and would have been able to grow enough for maybe two wigs in my earlier years.

My shave was the 14th May this year, so about two months are gone by now and I sort of resemble an ugly astro boy. *giggle* It's true, I look rather like a freak at the moment, but a lucky freak, cause my hair is growing.

Well my final $$ count is in and I have raised $3,070.00 for the Leukaemia Foundation which is way beyond what I thought I would raise. Thank you in a HUGE way to my wonderful sponsors, family and friends, and my hairdresser, I could not have done this without your love and support. I know a lot of people were rather shocked that I was going to do it, and some disbelieving, but you have to admit, it's for a great cause, and now I can cross that 'to do' off my list.

wow, yes, this is me, well it's me under the makeover anyways. lol. Sussan at Blush, what a legend - I like what you have done. I like it so much, I bought the same colours. Not that I will ever get myself looking like this, but I will certainly have fun playing with all the pretty colours.

Shave for a Cure - Zero Sleeps To Go.

The first snip of sectioned hair. This felt so strange.

ok, so all hair sections have now been snipped off, and here is me holding my hair. It's strange looking at my hair bunched so neatly in my hand. Didn't realise it was different shades of brown. Kinda pretty actually, should make a nice wig. Don't laugh, it's normally attached to my head, so I don't really get to see it myself. lol.

I had my eyes closed when the clippers come out, for two reasons, my hairdresser told me to shut my eyes, and also, oh gosh, it felt so darn good and relaxing. But then I love getting my head massaged or hair washed.

I just love this photo, what a perfect moment for me, I was spun around to the mirror and the first thing I thought was 'how ultra-small is my head!!' I couldn't stop laughing. I just looked too funny.

Thank you to Dan (left) who is my hairdresser and did my shave, and Thank you to Mitch (right) the owner of Mullet Hair, who did the lot for free AND gave me a cheque for $200.00 to donate to the Leukaemia Foundation, all because he dared me to go from a #2 to a #1. Too easy, especially for such an awesome donation.

Shave for a Cure - Four Sleeps To Go

Thought I would share a conversation had today with my darling boys.
Eldest "Mum, when do you shave your head?".
Me "This Friday". (I collect boys from school, they will be there to see it happen)
Eldest "Will it be short like Joycies?" (Our darling neighbour, she has lovely short wavy hair and is 70, and yes, her name IS Joyce).
Me "No, it will be the same as Daddies, it's called a #2 cut".
Eldest "Dad and Mum will be the same." (said in a 'wow' sort of tone, with bulging eyes.)
Youngest "No, some things are different."
Eldest "What?"
Youngest "Mummy's body is different cause she has boobs and a girl voice and Daddy wrestles".

leukaemia Foundation - Shave for a Cure Update - Oh it's a nude one.

Good Sunday Morning to you all. Just thought I would share with you the wonderful, wonderful news. So ok, I made a comment that I was speechless, well that was 2 minutes ago - I am back to ME now. lol.

Firstly, this is my first nudey post - woo woo - 'you can leave your hat on'. lol. It's nudey, cause I don't have a photo with this post. lol, and you were thinking, that little me was sitting here at the computer in my birthday suit. lol, not a chance.

Ok, now onto the reason for the post. As you know, I am doing the Shave for a Cure on the 14th May 2010. The last few days, I have been handed some dares, the first few were from hubbies workmates saying they will double their donations for me to go back to skin. One of them told me 'there is a greenback in it for you.' The other didn't say what his donation would be. I was tempted, trust me, really really freaked out at having a totally nude nut, but very tempted knowing where that much needed cash would be going.

Then at dinner that night, the shave come into conversation, and I was told (by hubbies family) that their donation would double for me to get a short styled cut, and yes, they named their very generous donation.

Hmmmm, all I could see was the money, the money going to these families to hopefully bring them some comfort, respite, nursing care, or even one day (hopefully in my lifetime) a cure for Leukaemia - yes, I am greedy, 'Show me the money!!'. So then I wondered if I would still get the cash from both sides, if half my head was shaved back to skin and the other half was a short styled cut. Yeah, I know, nuts, but like I said 'Show me the money!!'.

So ok, I was talking to some friends yesterday afternoon, they then write a cheque out then and there, yes my dear friends, grabbed a pen, and started writing a cheque to the Leukaemia Foundation - Shave for a Cure for $500.00. No, that is not a mis-type, the cheque has in black ink written on it $500.00 for me to shave my head a #2 or lower.

Decision made. I have now reached my original goal of $1,000.00 for the #4 shave, so with this new challenge today I have upped my Shave page to reach $2,000.00 for the Leukaemia Foundation to go a #2.

If you would like to help me reach my goal of $2,000.00 for the shave, please click on the link I have at the right of my blog.

I am the luckiest girl in the world, and yes, I will stop talking now.

Leukaemia Foundation - Shave for a Cure

I have finally set the date for my shave. This is Dan, my hairdresser, who will be relieving me of my hair on the 14th May 2010. I am donating it for wig making to the Children's Alopecia Society.

I am excited to have a date set now, however, am a little nervous about doing the shave. I am lucky, I have a choice, some people don't have that choice.

Today I was offered by 2 people they would double their donation if I went right back to my skull, as in clean razor shave back to the skin. I am not sure I can be that brave, however, this evening have been thinking of how beneficial that money would be to a family with a sick child.
It's very tempting, but their donation would have to be very worth while me doing so. Currently, I am going back to a number 4 clipper. So a total razor shave would be nothing on that really, would it?
